Overnight at Tops’l Farm

Do you dream of a little cabin tucked into the woods surrounded by crisp, Maine air and wild lupines? Well then you must get yourself to Tops’l Farm in Waldoboro, Maine. We spent Memorial Day weekend here and it was so unique. I first heard of the farm when my cousin sent me their Instagram post of a gorgeous, little A Frame cabin and from there I was obsessed. I quickly booked as fast as I could. A Frames, lupines and Maine? Yes, please!

I get so excited by unique properties like Tops’l and as a person with an events background and a big creative side, the property here is oozing with potential. We met a couple that had booked the whole property for their wedding next year and I was babbling out so many possibilities for the bride. There is so much privacy but also a community vibe that really makes the place feel like home almost. I love how the property is split into different sections and that dinners (and some snacks) were included in the price.

Each booking comes with a tiny A frame cabin for two people, breakfast snacks, coffee, dinner for both nights and the opportunity to use their canoes. I do wish the cabins came with options for queen beds (currently just one cabin has a queen for a higher price) instead of twin beds as this would have been much more romantic but I also totally understand it’s nicer to be able to book with friends or family when there’s twins!

There are no bathrooms inside the little A frames but the bathroom building was super clean and it’s a quick walk to all cabins. One side is men and one side is women with two toilets and two showers in each. In between the two, there’s a communal kitchen with things you might need to make any of your other meals not included. There’s a communal fire pit, picnic tables and a grill provided. I can only imagine the amazing after party back in this area after a wedding booked here. The string lights are already up!

Each cabin has a small gas heater and a lamp, lit by a grill lighter. Both work great. Since we were in Maine in May and it’s still cool, we were using the heater both nights. It does a great job really heating up the cabin and the light does a better job than you’d think. You have really everything you need at your fingertips, including a small table and chairs to use by the fire pit so make sure you buy a wood bundle! Admittedly, the blankets were not the most comfortable and we had luckily brought our duvet comforter from home, which saved the day for us. Maybe it’s me getting old or just knowing better now but I almost always travel locally with my own pillows and blankets!

The first night was a cute, picnic dinner that was better than expected. We had pulled pork sandwiches, delicious coleslaw, homemade chips & pickles then crumbly, sweet apple hand pies. The sit down dinner was so fun because the events barn is adorable. It really elevated the outdoorsy vibes that were happening all weekend and added such a uniqueness to the experience. We had some beginning snacks of cheese, crackers and a spring pea butter toast. Then a super fresh salad with radish, a stinky cheese, and nuts. The main course was smoked chicken pieces, farro with fiddleheads, and veggie skewers.

There’s a part of the property near the river that requires a hike and this is where Tops’l hosts some parties or special dinners, like the sugar shacks posted on their page. It looks so fun! Full warning, it’s much more of a hike than we expected and while it would be the most beautiful place to have a rehearsal dinner, it’s definitely not accessible because of mud, steep areas, and rocky terrain. However, it’s absolutely worth taking the hike to see if you book a weekend here and this is where you would get access to the canoes.

We had such a blast exploring all the parts to the Tops’l property and you can see in the pics above, they have really thought of everything to make your time better here. There’s games, a small fridge, plus I’m sure they would try their best to accommodate any requests you have or need. I can’t recommend booking a weekend here enough!
